Tuesday Morning, October 6, 2009.
I left the house on this Tuesday morning to wait with my girls for the school bus. Generally, I leave home early to drop the boys off at their schools and the girls stay with a neighbor or Nan to wait for the bus. Mary is generally off for work very early. One day a week I wait with them. This day was special. They noticed it first, that's important. Why? Several little reasons I find to be very big: They are paying attention to the world around them; Observance - they noticed it as soon as they were out of the house; Enthusiasm - they were so very excited about the rainbow; In the moment - they stopped what they were doing, looked it over thoroughly, talked to each other about it, and swallowed in its beauty. I too, slowly digested the beauty of the rainbow, their conversation and questions, and allowed myself to retreat from the march of 'to-dos' in my head. I relaxed and swam in the electricity being generated by an 8 and 10 year old experiencing the magic of a rainbow. It was a great way to start a day!
