2010 THS Swim Team Food Drive

The TH South Swim Teams, for the 5th year in a row, spent their Halloween collecting canned food for charity. The first year the teams collected 750 lbs. This year, 4,652 lbs. During last year's event, which raised over 5,100 lbs, Catholic Charities shared this reality; to feed those currently in need this food would last five days. To date, the teams have collected and contributed more than 18,000 lbs of food to the needy.

PS: This is a competition as well. In the end, the boys ended up losing to the girls. The losing team gets to make breakfast for the winners following a Saturday morning practice in the near future.
Score: Boys team, 102.3 lbs collected/swimmer - Girls team, 103.4 lbs collected/swimmer

2010 IHSAA XC State Championship

The Lavern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course
Terre Haute, Indiana

5k, 200 runners, 24 teams.

Down the front staight.

In the final 200m, carnage befalls the brave.

In the end, it was a great day. The team is young, 3 seniors, 2 sophomores, and 2 freshmen. They ran well on a very windy day against the best Indiana has to offer. Certainly an awesome experience for a freshman. While Jack was 35 seconds off his personal record, he had his best time on the Lavern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course, home of the NCAA Division I Championships.

By the numbers:
Time: 18:22.3 (PR 17:47.0 - 2010 Brown County Regional)
One of 7 freshmen competing in the State Finals.
5th place finish among the freshmen, and 180 overall.

The 48th Annual Eddie Conners Awards Presentation

-The Eddie Conners Award-

Eddie Conners, a citizen of Terre Haute, dedicated his life to the encouragement of young men to become good, clean athletes. Eddie regularly visited every playing field in the community where he would share his time, mentorship, and advice to the young playing games. The award was established in 1962 by Jim Hollis, Sid Levin, and Paul Mascari, who wanted to provide a suitable memorial to the a man who gave freely of himself, bettered his community, the people in it, died penniless and was buried in a paupers grave.
